Slitted Row Covers are made from clear polyethylene with approximately 95% transparency. Pre-cut crosswise slits, provide a method of ventilating hot air in periods of extreme heat. At night the slits remain closed, reducing the rate of convective heat loss and help to maintain warmer temperatures inside the tunnel. Pre-slitted rowcovers usually provide from 2�-4�F frost protection, but more importantly they elevate daytime temperatures which provides overall growth enhancement.

Slitted rowcovers have been used commercially for a number of years with outstanding results. Growers who have employed slitted rowcovers have been able to move up their planting and first harvest dates by approximately two weeks.

It is recommended to use black plastic mulch and drip tape in conjunction with slitted rowcovers. This will increase productivity and earliness, while suppressing weed growth.
