Hummert International Announces Its Educational Resources Division

Hummert International, a commercial horticultural supplier and greenhouse equipment distributor based out of Earth City, MO, announces the creation of their Educational Resources Division. This team will consist of Dr. Chad Follis - Director, Valerie Duever - Learning Technology Specialist, and Mike Hellmann - Manager Plants and Cutting. This newly formed department will be working with other specialists and the Hummert Marketing Team to develop a much-needed industry training for FFA programs, horticulturists, gardeners, and industry partners.The goal is to provide online student classroom resources and additional instructor resources to help FFA instructors maximize their campus greenhouses. The training modules could also be used to enhance ongoing corporate training for green industry organizations.

Chad’s professional experience includes the Division Chair: Agriculture, Science and Math, Department Chair and Professor of Agriculture Greenhouse, and Sports Field Supervisor at Mineral Area College. In addition to his educational experience, he has a strong background in greenhouse operation and the cultivation of common greenhouse crops, such as hemp, vegetables, bedding plants, houseplants, and turf. Chad is published in trade journals and scientific journals, has written grants to help the education community, and has experience working with different types of pollinator programs. As part of his education duties, Chad interacted daily with FFA programs and managed an 800 attendee FFA contest. Prior to his time in higher education, Chad worked in the industries of retail garden centers, Triple-A baseball, green industry consulting, and product research. Chad has a BS degree in Agriculture, MS in Horticulture, and Ed.D. in Education Policy, all degrees are from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Valerie Duever is our Learning Technology Specialist with the team. She is a Mizzou graduate with a BS in Floriculture and an MS in Learning Technology and Design. Her horticultural experience includes floral design, landscaping, greenhouses, garden centers, and managed beekeeping. Her administrative experience includes accounting, marketing, and graphic design. As an intern with the University of Missouri-Extension, she was an administrator for Canvas LMS and has experience in website creation, design, and management. Valerie has conducted value-added presentations for their local FFA, created and conducted beginning and intermediate beekeeping courses, and was part of the team that developed and designed the MU Missouri Master Pollinator Steward Program as an online course. Valerie will be designing videos, interactive graphics, courses, and assessments as resources for online learning experiences.
