  • Developed by USDA in Wyoming this is an excellent cool season berry
  • This unusually hardy strawberry can survive without mulch in many areas
  • Produces medium berries that are firm fleshed with cool nights and soft with warm nights
  • High yield, long season
  • Attractive berries are scarlet red with pink to scarlet interior
  • They rate highly in flavor and are especially aromatic, making them an easy sell at fresh market
  • Seeds are yellow
  • Pollinates well in warm and cool conditions
  • Runner production – medium
  • Great for fresh, freezing, and canning

Ozark Beauty

  • Developed in Arkansas this berry is widely adapted
  • High yield, soft fruit
  • Scarlet red with matching red interior
  • Most widely known and best preferred by fresh marketers and home gardeners
  • Robust, adaptable, prolific and highest rated in overall profile
  • So prolific that plants are capable of producing runners, blooms and fruit all at the same time
  • Honey sweet rather than sugary sweet
  • Berry is a long necked wedge
  • Medium-large berries in first harvest; large for rest of season
  • Produces from June to September
  • Will produce in zones 3 and 9 also, though not as prolific
  • Great for fresh market, dessert and freezing

Quinault

  • Developed by Washington State University; this is an excellent for early harvest berry
  • Fruit is large and will produce on unrooted runners
  • Berries can be harvested 4-5 weeks after planting
  • Produces extra large berries, some up to 2” across, that are soft
  • Scarlet red with scarlet interior rates high in flavor
  • Berry is round to round conical, large to very large
  • Seeds are small and pale, making berry appear even more red
  • Runner production – very good
  • Fresh market, canning, and dessert; not recommended for freezing
  • Resists viruses, soil diseases, red stele, leaf spot, leaf scorch, frost tolerant
  • One of the most disease resistant varieties
  • Susceptible to mildews, but this is easily taken care of with a copper maintenance spray
