The IRROMETER supplies soil moisture information by acting as a “dummy root”.  It consists of a sealed, water-filled tube equipped with a porous, ceramic tip that is installed in the ground at desired root zone depths.  In dry soil, water is drawn out of the instrument, reducing water volume in the IRROMETER, thus creating a partial vacuum, which is registered on the gauge.  The drier the soil, the higher the reading.  An irrigation reverses this action.  The vacuum previously created in the tube by dry soil draws water from the now irrigated soil back into the instrument.  This in turn results in a lower gauge reading.  Two instruments are necessary for accurate assessment of available water at the root zone: one is set shallow, the other deep.

Model 'R' - Agricutural & Growers

Standard IRROMETER for general use with row, tree & field crops.  Shorter lengths for greenhouse & pots.

Includes reservoir, air free gauge chamber & hermetically sealed IRROMETER vacuum gauge (0-100 kPa).

Model 'RA' - Automatic

Model "RA" IRROMETER with direct switching capabilities.  Adjustable moisture level selector switch may be set at any desired moisture level.  The switch will be closed past the setting to actuate solenoid, time clock, warning light or bell. Switch available for AC or DC power supply (vacuum gauge 0-100 kPa).

Model 'LT'- Low Tension

The IRROMETER model "LT" (low tension) - is designed for situations where tensions above 30 cb (kPa) are rarely expected.  Ideal for very coarse soils & non-soil container-media or where rapidly changing soil water status needs to be observed.  Incorporates a replaceable Quick-Flo tip (blue color) & low tension vacuum gauge (40 cb).

Includes reservoir, air free gauge chamber & hermetically sealed IRROMETER vacuum gauge with dual scale of centibars & kilopascals (0-40 cb [kpa] range)

Model 'MLT' - Miniature Low Tension

The IRROMETER model "MLT" (miniature low tension) - designed for appications similar to the model "LT" above.  Ideal for use with very coarse soils and non-soil container-media.  Its compact size & replaceable "Quick-Flo" tip make it the best choice for greenhouse applications.

Service Units

A Service Unit is necessary for proper operation of the IRROMETER instrument & should be included on initial orders. One unit will service all of your IRROMETERS.

1002 - Test Pump Service Unit (For Models R, RA & LT)

The Test Pump Service Unit serves the dual purpose of removing air & testing the gauge in one operation.

  • 1 - hand vacuum pump, equipped with test gauge
  • 1 - bottle IRROMETER fluid
  • 25 - monthly chart forms
  • 1 - reference book

1007 - MLT Service Unit (For Model MLT)

  • 1 - hand vacuum pump (syringe style)
  • 1 - bottle IRROMETER fluid
  • 25 - monthly chart forms
  • 1 - reference book

Note: Service unit for all models should be purchased with initial order

To ensure your order's accuracy, please carefully READ ALL PARTS of chart below. Examine model number, specifications, etc. of each item before entering a quantity.  PLEASE NOTE: Prices subject to change without notice. Shipping, handling and freight charges are not included in prices shown.
