IPM: Integrated Pest Management >>  Aphid Controls
Aphid Controls

Aphidius spp. A. colemani, A. matricariae or A. ervi and Aphelinus abdominalis — Aphid Parasitoids are tiny, stingless mini-wasps which can be extremely helpful in preventing and correcting low-level aphid populations and augmenting predatory insects on over forty aphid species. Use at the first sign of aphids or, preventively based on your records. Once installed these biocontrol agents will often show up next spring with the first aphids. Shipped as "mummies" or adults depending upon which species is ordered.
Aphidoletes aphidimyza — Aphid Midges are tiny, mosquito-like creatures which are extremely useful in keeping large aphid populations in check. Best used in trees as the adult midges are very nomadic. Also instrumental in tomato growers’ greenhouses, especially later in the summer. These tiny midges are very aggressive. Shipped as ready-to-emerge pupae.
Chrysoperla rufilabris — Lacewings or aphid lions, as they’re commonly called, are very aggressive predators in their larval form. They prefer aphids but may also consume long-tailed mealybugs and other scales, whiteflies, and other soft-bodied pests such as insect eggs. Use the eggs for non-pointed applications, i.e., general garden or field usage. Use the larvae for targeted control in greenhouses. Shipped as eggs in rice hulls or as larvae in frames or bottles, as requested.

Hippodamia convergens — Convergent Ladybugs — yes, the ones we are all familiar with — are terrific aphid preditors which, like laewings, are quite opportunistic and may at times impact non-aphid pests. Ladybugs are refridgerator storable little releases are necessary, but as effective control of aphids none are better for the price. Shipped as adults.
